Dynamic FM Secures Key Win at Lancaster University for Energy Centre 1 Boiler Upgrade

Continuing our growing portfolio of successful projects completed with lancaster University, we are proud to announce our successful appointment to deliver the third and final phase of modular boiler upgrades at Energy Centre 1 — a critical component in the University’s wider Net Zero Energy Project.

Following a competitive tender process, Dynamic FM ranked first overall based on both technical quality and commercial value. Our submission achieved the highest quality score and offered the lowest price of all bids received, confirming our position as the University’s preferred contractor for this vital infrastructure work.

Supporting Lancaster’s Net Zero Journey

The project involves the installation of high-efficiency, hydrogen-ready modular gas boilers within the existing energy centre. These works will replace the remaining legacy plant from earlier phases, optimising output while enabling integration with future low-carbon technologies — including air source heat pumps.

As part of our delivery, we will manage:

  • Removal of redundant pipework and enabling works for future ASHP connections
  • Installation of Hamworthy Upton modular boilers and flue systems
  • New pump sets, plate heat exchangers (PHEX), and pressurisation units
  • Integration into existing BMS and electrical infrastructure
  • Scaffold access, roof penetrations, and weatherproofing for flue mast installation
  • Off-site prefabrication of pipework for efficient on-site assembly
  • Full commissioning, pressure testing, and seasonal load validation

Our delivery approach is informed by the lessons learned from successfully completing Phases 1 and 2 at the same facility. The project is scheduled for completion in September 2025, in line with the University’s funding and operational deadlines.

A Proven Team with a Carbon-Conscious Mindset

All works will be undertaken by Dynamic FM’s in-house engineering team and trusted specialist partners, several of whom were involved in previous phases of the Energy Centre works. The project will also serve as a demonstrator for our new carbon tracking and reporting system, developed to align with Lancaster’s goal of becoming Net Zero by 2035.

Key sustainability actions include:

  • Off-site pipe fabrication and local sourcing to reduce transport emissions
  • Use of battery-powered tools, anti-idling policies, and temporary energy meters
  • Waste management strategies to achieve >98% landfill diversion
  • Carbon offsetting verified through ClimatePartner

Building on Success

We look forward to continuing our work with Lancaster University — building successful partnerships and proving our ability to deliver projects of the highest standard.

“This project reflects our continued commitment to quality, technical innovation, and low-carbon delivery in the higher education sector. We’re proud to support Lancaster University’s sustainability ambitions while upgrading critical infrastructure.”
