Dynamic FM Completes Energy Centre Upgrade at Accrington College
Dynamic FM is proud to announce the successful completion of a new energy centre project at Accrington College. This project is a testament to our team’s dedication to delivering high-quality, efficient solutions that meet the needs of our clients. Working directly with the college, our team managed the entire process, from design to construction, ensuring that the new energy centre meets modern standards for efficiency and reliability.
Project Overview: A Collaborative Effort for Improved Efficiency
Our work at Accrington College involved a comprehensive refurbishment of the 1MW plant room. Dynamic FM’s Mechanical department spearheaded the installation of new boilers, pumps, valves, and Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICVs). Additionally, we upgraded the thermal insulation for both new and existing services, enhancing the overall efficiency of the plant room.
Simultaneously, our Electrical department managed the installation of a new 3-phase Building Management System (BMS) control panel. This included all associated control wiring, integrating the plant room’s systems into a more streamlined and efficient network. The project also involved laying a new 25mm SWA cable from the main distribution panel to the Mechanical control panel, making use of the existing ladder rack containment system.
Our team also took care to renew the main earth bonding conductors and supplementary bonding for the mechanical infrastructure piping. Plant room lighting, emergency systems, and secondary wiring for pumps and other ancillary equipment were also upgraded to ensure a safe, reliable, and energy-efficient operation.

Added Value for Accrington College
At Dynamic FM, we believe in going beyond project specifications to provide added value. While working on-site, our team conducted a complimentary condition survey of three additional plant rooms at Accrington College. This survey provided the college with valuable insights into the condition of their existing infrastructure, allowing them to plan for future maintenance and upgrades. Our proactive approach ensures that our clients can make informed decisions about their facilities, even beyond the scope of the current project.
Overcoming Challenges with Strategic Planning
Working in a live college environment during the winter months and amidst the challenges of a pandemic required careful coordination and planning. Our team meticulously managed shutdown sequences to ensure there was no disruption to the college’s operations during critical dates. By closely coordinating with the college’s team, we ensured that all milestones were met without hindrance to daily activities.
Additionally, our installation included a specially designed scaffolding system capable of supporting 500kg. This allowed for the safe and efficient lowering of the new flue system into the existing chimney structure, ensuring that safety and efficiency remained top priorities throughout the project.
