Dynamic FM Completes Successful Electrical Services Relocation for Roberts Bakery

Dynamic FM have recently completed a comprehensive electrical services relocation project for Roberts Bakery. This project, completed in partnership with Build Zone, involved re-installing and upgrading various high- and low-voltage (HV and LV) systems as part of the relocation of Roberts Bakery’s “Little Treats” production area. With our expertise, we ensured a seamless transition of electrical services across multiple areas, including production spaces, staff facilities, and critical operational systems.

Scope of Work: Powering Up the Future of Roberts Bakery

Dynamic FM’s remit for this project encompassed a full range of electrical services to support Roberts Bakery’s relocated operations. Our team managed the electrical fit-out for new and existing office spaces, a refreshed canteen and staff rest area with upgraded male, female, and disabled toilets, and an entirely new engineers’ workshop with hygiene facilities. The project also included power installations for reception areas, a driver’s dispatch area, external storage silos, and vital backup power systems.

The relocation required a thorough approach to ensure uninterrupted operations. For example, Dynamic FM installed a generator outside the compressor room, equipped with a transfer switch to keep the oven conveyors running in the event of a power outage. This feature is critical for maintaining production and reducing fire risk by ensuring the conveyors can be cleaned out safely if power is lost.

Tailored Electrical Solutions for a Complex Environment

Roberts Bakery’s facility has diverse production areas, from raw material storage to high-speed production rooms. Dynamic FM tailored the electrical solutions for each area to ensure optimal performance and safety:

• Production and Raw Material Areas: We powered key areas, such as the butter store, fat store, and high bay storage racking in the raw materials section, using Distribution Board 4. Our team designed and installed a robust high-level containment system using double Unistrut supports, drop rods, and interlocked steel wire bracing. This system ensured stability and reliability, allowing for efficient power distribution throughout the facility.

• New Hygiene and NPD Kitchen: Adjacent to the raw materials area, Dynamic FM installed power for wash-down facilities, ovens, and washer units. This installation, fed via Distribution Board 2, supports the high standards of cleanliness and efficiency required in food production environments.

• Staff Welfare Areas: We upgraded the electrical systems for the new canteen, kitchen, and offices, ensuring that the staff welfare areas met modern standards. The mezzanine floor above the engineers’ workshop provided additional space for staff dining and customer meetings, with power circuits dedicated to fridges, dishwashers, microwaves, and vending machines.

• External Power Solutions: Power was also extended to external silos, the chiller unit, and a new plant room, ensuring that critical storage and temperature-sensitive areas were well-supported.

Overcoming Challenges with Strategic Planning

One of the major challenges of the Roberts Bakery project was conducting extensive electrical work on a live site without disrupting day-to-day operations. Dynamic FM meticulously planned shut-down sequences, ensuring that critical dates were met without interruptions to the bakery’s workflow. The installation of a custom-designed scaffolding system allowed our team to safely and efficiently install a new flue system into the existing chimney structure.
